As usual for me, this weekend I haven’t stopped. My parents decided to come see me and it seemed a good reason to make a beautiful trip to Urederra. As soon as we looked up the place in Google we realised of either one of the following things: it had to be gorgeous or the photos we were seeing were retouched. However, it truly is a magical place.

Once we programmed the GPS, we got into the car and headed towards the Nacedero del Urederra, located north of Estella-Lizarra, where the natural outlet of the Urbasa aquifer is located. From this underground structur Urederra was born, which in Basque means “beautiful water” (ur ederra). This river located in Navarra runs through the Urbasa Andía Natural Park, and it has been modeling a karstified rocky landscape whereby the water takes on an enchanting turquoise blue color. So this is why the water looks so clear and clean and is not any blue dye that has been thrown on it, as I heard my father joke...

Through the 19 kilometers that the river runs, we were able to see pools, waterfalls and water curtains, surrounded by a thick forest where beech trees stand out, creating a landscape of unprecedented intense blue and green colors. Due to its importance for wildlife and its special geological features, it was named a Nature Reserve in 1987.

The path we followed to reach the waterfalls is called "La Ruta De las Cascadas de Baquedano", and it counts with a car park and a tourist information point in the Baquedano town. Before organizing the excursion, it is important to keep in mind that although admission is free, the entrance is limited and therefore, it is necessary to make a prior reservation through the internet or at the Baquedano Tourist Office. The duration of our route was 2 and a half hours and the path was very easy, also to go with the little ones.

It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places in Navarra, notable for its beautiful nature which shows how much we owe to Mother Earth. Without a doubt, it was a moment of reconnection for all of us that reminded us of the important role it plays in our mental well-being.

Have a good day!
