The world is paused. Most of the countries have had to take measures due to the Coronavirus disease so that the quantity of those infected doesn’t get out of control. In Europe and many other places one can feel the general sadness that remains in the air caused by thousands of lives that the virus has dragged.
In Spain, strict measures have been taken so that people don’t go out to the street and thus avoid being infected. Being at home for so many hours has caused people to practice all kinds of activities: painting, cooking, sports, reading, writing (I am trying to do something useful here), etc.
Perhaps after this time a new era of cultural enrichment begins in Spain and in the world in general. Who knows. In my case, between work, a course that I am taking that will serve me for the near future and my moments of procrastination, I don't have more time to waste. Having repeated the routine so many times, I’ve had the moment to appreciate the small things that I use in my day to day life that to a lesser or greater extent facilitate my existence. I am talking about everyday objects that everyone has at home but that I’ve a lot of affection for them and I wanted to share with you.
By some post of mine I have been able to imply that I am a coffee lover and since I am at home, I usually try, at least once a day, to prepare a flat white as tasty and beautiful as they usually do in cosy coffee shops. I didn’t know but it turns out that to make the best flat white, the proportions of the substances to be mixed are very important and so must be the glass that contains it. In my case, the glass that I like the most is one that I bought in Madrid with Laura, my current flatmate. It is made of ceramic, and has some beautiful colors that can make you change your mind about the tones depending on the light that reflects on it.
Since a week ago, the weather in Madrid has improved considerably and it is even acceptable to eat on the terrace (for those lucky enough to have one). It turns out that I am one of those lucky people in this regard. My apartment has two beautiful terraces, quite spacious, where you can get sun for many hours of the day. So, when I have the time, I put on my sunglasses, pick up the book I should have ended by now and I spent my time there until the heat becomes unbearable.
Sometimes, too many times, I lose concentration while reading and start to observe other things in my reverie. My brain is quite curious about hands, their shapes, and nails. I have to say that I pay close attention to them and I fancy seeing them decorated. Before this confinement began, my parents were able to come to Madrid to see me and one of the gifts they gave me were some silver rings bought in the city. I like thin rings, they give me the feeling of freshness and my stubby fingers can be as flexible as if I didn't have them on.
In addition to the details that surely each of us is appreciating in our everyday, in my case, these two months are turning out to be wonderful to strengthen ties with my partner and to test what living together would be like. Undoubtedly I am in a position where I think I have been very lucky, and despite the harsh reality that is being experienced globally, I feel glad knowing that in the quarantine we’ve spent our time like two happy kiddos.
And you, what little things have you been appreciating during the quarantine?
Happy weekend!
